Day 7: Domandin, domandin, domandin (slowly, slowly, slowly)
To our surprise today we made it to Nyofelleh in time. The classroom was tidy and the floor had been swept, which delighted us. It allowed us to get going with our corner work straight away: tangram, dobble, string games, rummikub, atlas usage, and writing ornamental letters. All this interspersed with singing and dancing to African rhythms with the children.
This whole language immersion gave the teachers, the children, and us a lot of satisfaction. We had a quick look at the preschool classes and saw that everything there was going well. We expressed our appreciation to the headmaster and he replied: “It’s the least we can do. If you put in so much work so do we.” He has lots of plans for the future.
Then we started our trip to Kerrsering. Half way there our right front wheel broke down. The emergency repairs would take only 15 minutes … but we ended up waiting more than an hour! No stress in The Gambia ☺. During the wait we handed out the last of the soccer outfits we brought to the local youngsters. No time to waste ☺.
In Kerrsering we provided two health centres with medical supplies. Afterwards Véronique invited us for Belgian stew with fries. Griet and Sofie went to Salomon to pick up the halyard with Gambian flags we will use to decorate our markets.
Another successful day with so many people who wear their heart in the right place.
