Our day began with shopping for the final furnishings for the school and the health centre. At the school we handed out the counting boxes and explained their use in the first and second grade. The teachers and the pupils were very enthusiastic. In the preschool we introduced corner work. A great success. During the break we diligently finished the final coat hooks.
During the walk to the health centre the children kept finding us. They would take our hands and lead us to their homes. They took us to the front entrance and introduced us to the rest of their family. We also saw the carpenter working on the cupboard we ordered.
In the health centre we thoroughly cleaned the delivery room and the maternity ward. Just in time …
What we hadn’t dared dream of became reality. A woman in full labour was brought in. The male midwife called us into the delivery room. We quickly donned aprons and gloves and then supported the woman when she had to push. After three sets of pushes, a healthy baby was born. We felt a lot of respect for the woman. Giving birth is completely different from what it is in Belgium. The four of us were dumbfounded and tearful. We took part in the follow-up care of the woman and her baby. We felt good about it all for a long time.
This gave us new energy to tackle the last room full of boxes.
At 6 pm the carpenter delivered the made to measure cupboard we had ordered. A fine piece of local craftsmanship.
Such a satisfying day! Our dreams will be beautiful!
