A quiet start of the day today.
We slept a little longer and had an elaborate breakfast.
Because today was ‘cleaning day’ (cleaning the streets on orders of the president), we were not allowed to drive a car before 1 pm. After a short and bumpy ride, we had a look at theĀ Arribaja Clinic in Wullinkamma Brufut. The clinic is a remote building where a doctor and some volunteers are available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We were astounded by how little they have to work with.
Today a woman in labour was brought in on a donkey cart. She could not be helped there because she needed a caesarian. As there was no ambulance, one of the volunteers called a taxi. The doctor told us their biggest concern was the lack of medicine. We decided to try to help with that too in the future.
After a refreshing plunge we visited Monkey Island, which was within walking distance. A phone call made us return to the hotel quickly. There Kalifa and Karamoo were waiting for us. A nice surprise. Another day of nothing but praise with knowledge, materials, financial support and an invitation to come back as the recurring theme.
For us these two weeks were a great success!
