Day 3: Six in one day
In good spirits we got in our bus and drove towards Nyofelleh. On the way we negotiated with the tailor of the Sifoe Education Centre about the production of 100 large and 100 small storage bags. Meanwhile our carpenter came by to hand us the tender for the educational materials we ordered.
After a bumpy ride over sandy roads we were welcomed by the cheerful headmaster. He had emptied one classroom because he assumed we would only be able to paint one. A mixed crowd of teachers, villagers and pupils helped us out. Even our ‘bodyguard’ Karamon proved handy with a paint brush. The headmaster soon realised we were unstoppable and quickly made arrangements to empty the other rooms. By lunch time we had finished 3 rooms. After a short break we went to the nursery school. Here the three class rooms were in even more need of a lick of paint. After six more classrooms we were finished and we could enjoy a local meal.
Tomorrow we’ll add the finishing touches: drawings on the wall, adding painted blackboards and thoroughly cleaning the rooms, tables and chairs. It will be a phenomenal change.
In the evening Wijnand and Vide visited us and handed us the locally made flags. Beautiful!
