Before we could do anything didactic we had to sort, tidy, repair, number, hammer, move, puzzle out,… We had never seen anything like this. The teacher just stood there and watched. Despite the lack of structure the preschoolers were really good.
When things were finally nice and tidy, we could begin. We started with a puppet show to tell a Miffy story. We used this to teach the children about 3 basic feelings. Afterwards the kinds were given pencils and paper to draw. For many of them it was the first time they held a pencil. The school day ended pleasantly with singing and dancing. We loved it.

In the education centre local women were already busy sowing the uniforms we had ordered. We also learned about Hanne’s project, making reusable sanitary napkins. Busy bees. We continued our day in the health centre where we got to work on digital scales we had to put together ourselves IKEA style. Here too we felt two of the rooms could do with some soap and water. There was a lot to see while we worked … a waiting room full of women and children, a woman lying on the floor,…
Afterwards one of the nurses took us home for a short visit. We got to meet the entire family. Not enough time … there is enough work here to fill several weeks!
