Work week
After a two day weekend, of which we used one to recharge our batteries with solar energy, tomorrow it is back to school again.
Today we visited Kunta Kinteh Island. After an adventurous journey with a ferry and a jeep, we arrived in Juffureh, the former home of Kunta Kinteh. With a local pirogue (a type of punt) we visited the island. It was deeply moving. After a typical Gambian meal (really tasty), we visited a family of 17 on the way back. We had clothes, soap and candy for them. They were so grateful they gave us a water melon.
DID YOU KNOW
- A Gambian man is allowed to have 4 wives. Our guide, Saikou, said he had 4 white wives for the day. He took really good care of us.
- Our local driver stops when you break a boiled egg on his roof!
It was a delightful, educational day.
