Tomorrow we are the wrapping of the children’s sandwiches.
Today we started our day in the Sifoe school. This time we introduced corner work to the third graders.
Ina and Annelies did the tangram puzzles the local carpenter made for us. Griet practised the times tables with slates and dice (thank you Baert).
Ingrid and Lieve submerged the kids in an English language bath with the cards they made.
Karen and Sofie made friendship bracelets. After the break there was a geography lesson for the fifth graders. For this we used the donated globe and atlases.
At some point we were called away for an interview for the West-Gambian radio. Ingrid got an opportunity to explain about our BIG heart for Sifoe. The recorded interview would be published in the newspaper the next day. As the children use newspapers to wrap the sandwiches they take to school, we’ll get to be their wrapping for a bit.
In the afternoon we went to Nyofelleh again, this time to the Nursery and Primary school. The situation there was heart wrenching. We had no words for it and we were all very moved!
In spite of their situation we were welcomed by smiling faces and happy children. Here too our corner work met with success. They expressed their gratitude with a delicious meal.
